  • Sunday Stroke Clinic Spring 2013

    GBSA PRESENTS
    2013 Spring Sunday Stroke Clinic
    Classes will begin Sunday, March 10th. We will run ten (10) classes over eleven (11) Sundays – taking Easter Sunday, 3/31 off – ending Sunday 5/19. Registration is done online (URL TBA).
    Registration will open on Friday, 3/1, 2013 – look for postings at gbsaswim.org for an exact time!!!
    1 and 2pm classes will be available; when those fill 3pm will open if necessary.

    Groups will be as follows:
    1. Beginners: Ages 4 & up meeting from 1:00 -1:45 p.m.
    Cost: $90.00
    Level I: Children must be able to get in the water without parents.
    Level II: Children must be able to push off the wall and kick to the instructor and be able to blow bubbles.

    2. Intermediate: Ages 5 & up meeting from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
    Cost: $120.00
    Level I: Children must be able to swim 15 yards of freestyle with their face in the water and be able to kick on their back.
    Level II: Children must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke.

    3. Competitive: Ages 6 & up meeting from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
    Cost: $120.00
    Level I: Children must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle with proficient lateral breathing and 25 yards of backstroke and have some knowledge of breast stroke.
    Level II: Children must be able to swim 25’s and 50’s repeatedly as well as have a competent breaststroke.

  • November Home meet/ Holiday meets

    GBSA,
    The Home meet is coming up - 3rd weekend of November - and we will be distributing a website where you can sign up for work assignments. One MAJOR role we need filled is a Concessions Coordinator for the morning 12 and under sessions to assist Mrs. Scholz who will run the Friday night and afternoon sessions. If you have any experience with this type of organization, WE NEED YOU!! If not experienced but you are interested - WE NEED YOU TOO!!

    Also I need to hear from the folks that run the computer. We need two people in there all sessions if at all possible.

    Entries for our GBSA swimmers will be due Friday, 11/2 - PLEASE remember to turn in check with the entry form in the file entitled Patrick, and a note in the memo area as to meet name and swimmer name. DO NOT COMBINE WITH ANY OTHER FEE!!!!

    Holiday Meets:

    The SRS/BLS and a select group of ten to twelve 11-12 year olds from the BLJ will be attending the Potomac Marlins Sportsfair Winter Classic at GMU 12/6-9. The 6th is a Thursday and I believe only the older kids 1000s and 11-12 500s are that night. Please visit pvswim.org and go to meet schedules and find this meet to start planning your event schedule and getting hotel rooms.

    We will also send a group the same weekend, Fri-Sun to ASC Holiday invite. Coaches Sara and Michael will work on an invite list.

    I will send the entry deadline for these meets very soon.

  • Practice Schedule 2012-2013 - Updated: Change in Saturday practice Hours!!!

    PLEASE note Saturdays Practice hours have changed as follows:
    Minis 12-1, 1-2pm; W2, W1 12-130pm; BLJ 12-2pm; HSD 1:30-3pm; SRS/BLS 1-4pm.

    Also, CAA Mini meet Entry deadline is Fri, 10/5

    GBSA,
    We are in the process of filling in the lanes for each night of practice. We have a whole bunch of people who have not emailed. I hope that this does not mean that many of you are declining your invitation to swim with the team this year!!

    Please note that as of now, Saturday, 9/1 the following practices are closed:
    Minis: Mondays 5-6, Fridays 5-6

    W2:Mondays

    W1: Mondays

    We need to have these schedules worked out for registration next week. PLEASE email me ASAP. IF YOU ARE DECLINING THE INVITATON PLEASE EMAIL ASAP!!!

    • Greetings and Congratulations to our GBSA Team for 2012-13!
    Please review the groupings and understand that we are at our limit! At this point the necessity to maintain reasonable lane space becomes the priority. We most likely will not be able to accommodate everyone’s ideal practice schedule but I will do the best I can. So beginning at 8a this Friday, 8/31. I will start accepting emails for each swimmers’ requested practice schedule. When you email please put “Requested practice schedule for (swimmers’ names or name)” and give me each schedule by child name. Please use the available schedule listed below, understanding that I am still unsure as to the exact start time for Saturdays. (ALSO – if you read this and know the Wack family or if Mr. or Mrs. Wack read this please email me!!)

    Minis: Mondays 5-6 or 6-7pm, Wednesdays 4:30-5:30 or 5:30-6:30, Friday 5-6 or 6-7, Saturdays 12-1 or 1-2:00PM
    W2: Mondays 5-6:30pm, Wednesdays 4:30-6pm, Thursdays 4:45-6:15, Fridays 5-6:30, Saturdays 1-1:30
    W1: Mondays 5-6:30, Tuesdays 4:45-6:15, Wednesdays 4:30-6, Fridays 6-7:30, Saturdays 1-1:30

    We will register the week after Labor Day (Of course practice doesn’t begin until Tuesday, 9/4) and you will need the team registration form from the team website, if new to USA Swimming also a birth certificate, if switching clubs a transfer form (www.mdswim.org) and the checks as listed at www.gbsaswim.org. Please register the night of your first practice!
