  • MD Swimming Championships - Results!

    I want to say Congratulations to our GBSA swimmers who represented us so well at the 2010 Maryland State Swimming Championships. The kids were great and competed with the best in the area!! Here are some highlights:

    High point Scorer:
    Alex Ewart - 101 points! Connor Ganley - 99 points!!
    GBSA scored 403 points at the meet. These two young men scored 200 points together and were a part of two 4th place relays!! They together made up over 50% of our State team's points! WAY TO GO STUDS!!!!

    We also set several team records at the meet!

    Connor Ganley (11-12) - 50 breast, 100 breast, 200 breast
    Alex Ewart (11-12) - 100 fly, 200 fly, 100 IM
    David Bracken (13-14) - 100 breast, 200 breast (David took his record back from Colin Ganley, who set the 13-14 record before he aged up to 15! These two took it from TJ Bland who set the record as a 14yo at States also!) TJ Bland (Open) - 100 breast, 200 breast

    Relays:
    Women's Open 400 Medley - Lillian Hulbert, Mandi Kennedy, Casey West, Erin Shea Boy's 11-12 200 Free - Alex Ewart, Michael Brady, Matthew Brady, Connor Ganley

    Sectional Qualifiers! The Sectional Championships are the next step beyond the States and brings together swimmers from Virginia up to Delaware!! Throughout the season we have had the most swimmers and relays qualify for this meet in GBSA history! TJ Bland, Erin Shea and Casey West have qualified individually! And along with these three we have 4 Women's and 2 Men's relays qualify as well!! This is actually the first time we have ever had Women's Relays at the meet!! Along with TJ, Erin and Casey GBSA will be represented at Sectionals by Colin Ault, Ben Dean, Nathan Brocenos, Mandi Kennedy, Lillian Hulbert and Rebecca Hawley!! CONGRATULATIONS!! BEST OF LUCK FROM US ALL AND SWIM FAST!!!

    What a great way to cap off the short course season and we have one more to go!! BEST OF LUCK AND SWIM FAST - SHOOT FOR THE STARS AT THE 10 AND UNDER CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS WEEKEND!!

  • Two more team records fall!

    Two 8 & Under team records were broken recently by Claire O'Shaughnessy. At the January mini meet Claire swam the 25 back in 18.79, and at our February home meet, Claire beat the 100 fly record with a 1:42.91! Be sure to give Claire a high five next time you see her!

  • Announcing our Sunday Stroke Clinic for Spring 2010!!!

    Classes will begin Sunday, September 12th. We will run nine (9) classes over 10 Sundays – taking Sunday, 9/19 off – ending Sunday 11/14. This year registration will be done online (URL TBA). Registration will open on September 1, 2010 – look for postings at gbsaswim.org for an exact time!!! 1 and 2pm classes will be available; when those fill 3pm will open if necessary.

    Groups will be as follows:
    1. Beginners: Ages 4 & up meeting from 1:00 -1:45 p.m.
    Cost: $80.00
    Level I: Children must be able to get in the water without parents.
    Level II: Children must be able to push off the wall and kick to the instructor and be able to blow bubbles.

    2. Intermediate: Ages 5 & up meeting from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
    Cost: $110.00
    Level I: Children must be able to swim 15 yards of freestyle with their face in the water and be able to kick on their back.
    Level II: Children must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke.

    3. Competitive: Ages 6 & up meeting from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
    Cost: $110.00
    Level I: Children must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle with proficient lateral breathing and 25 yards of backstroke and have some knowledge of breast stroke.
    Level II: Children must be able to swim 25’s and 50’s repeatedly as well as have a competent breaststroke.

  • Great Meet Results at End of 2009

    GBSA has had many fantastic meets in the past; whether it be December travel or spring/summer time Champs we have had great meets. Well this year's performance at the ASC Holiday Meet outshines them all!! The kids were excited, had fun and made remarkable improvement. As a team we have never performed better!!! And thank you very much to the parents who helped out SO MUCH!! It was a wonderful weekend!!
